Volunteer Powered
We are a Non-Profit Organization and are not affiliated with any government agency. We employ a minimal staff and pride ourselves on having a small army of volunteers.
Donation Lifeblood
While it is often possible to win grant funding for actual “Trail Construction” and sometimes for “Planning,” much of the critical trail planning and trail design tasks are not eligible for Private, Business, or Government Grants. As a result, trail planning and design work is more often paid for entirely by funds donated to Tahoe-Pyramid Trail.
Matching Power
Ongoing Care
Once the trail is built, a pool of annually available funds is also needed to maintain, improve, and repair the trail.
The Tahoe-Pyramid Trail is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization (Tax ID 55-0895667). Donations may be tax-deductible. All donations will be acknowledged with a letter from our all-volunteer team.

TPT Supporters can contribute directly from their IRA.
IRA owners 70-1/2 or older are allowed by current tax provisions to direct up to $100,000 per year of their IRA distributions to charity. The money given to Tahoe Pyramid Trail counts toward the donor’s “Required Minimum Distribution” (RMD), but doesn’t increase the donor’s adjusted gross income or generate a tax bill.
Contributions must be distributed from the IRA. Contact your IRA custodian to adhere to current regulations.
More Ways to Give:
Most of our supporters, now over 200, are Century Circle donors, giving $100 or more per year.
This group was launched in 2010 to keep the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail moving forward and plays an important part in the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail’s financial health.
Century Circle donors are acknowledged in the Tahoe Pyramid Trail Newsletter and in the Trail Supporters page on our website.

Endowment & Legacy Giving
A permanent endowment has been established at the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada (CFNN) to provide a steady source of income to build, care for, and manage the TPT in the long-term. Only the income from the endowment will be used; the principal will never be touched.
You can make a gift to grow the endowment by sending a check payable to: CFNN (marked “For TPT”)
Mail this to: CFNN, 50 Washington Street, Suite 300-A, Reno, NV 89503
How to make a gift to the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail as part of your Will or Trust
Fill out the Codicil form: Download the TPT Legacy Circle codicil form (Download PDF here >), and give it to your legal counsel, and/or attach it to your existing Will or Trust.
Gifts by Beneficiary Designation
Request a change of beneficiary form from the company holding your assets (for example, your IRAs, 401(k) and other retirement plans, bank accounts, commercial annuities, life insurance policies, and other assets) and include Tahoe-Pyramid Trail as a full or partial beneficiary
What is the Legacy Circle?
The Legacy Circle recognizes the generosity and vision of those who have chosen to leave financial support to the TPT in your will or estate plan.
Consider letting us know in writing that you have made an estate gift to TPT, so that you can join the Legacy Circle. If you desire, we will honor your request for anonymity.
Benefits to you: The greatest benefit is the satisfaction of knowing that your long-range plans will help preserve the work of volunteers and donors that built the Trail. As a member of the TPT Legacy Circle you will be recognized in the TPT newsletter, on our website, and at TPT’s annual event.
Benefits to the Tahoe Pyramid Trail: By including TPT in your Will or Trust, or by naming it the beneficiary of your investment accounts, you help us:
- Maintain the existing trail system
- Upgrade existing trail
- Conduct volunteer training
A gift of stocks, bonds, or mutual funds to TPT may allow you to realize tax savings while contributing to protecting and preserving the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail.
To make such asset gifts, please call us at 775-825-9868. If you leave a message, a member of the TPT Leadership Team will get in touch with you to answer your questions.
Appreciated Real Estate or other assets can be placed in a Charitable Trust, which provides tax benefits, generates income for your lifetime, and then donates the remainder to TPT when you die (or the reverse, depending on what kind you set up).
For help in setting this type of trust up, call the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada at 333-5499, your favorite Community Foundation where you live, or your attorney or estate planning advisor.
