The 2019 “Tahoe Pyramid Trail Volunteer of the Year” award was presented to Bill von Phul at the recent TPT Annual Fundraising Kickoff Event held at the Patagonia Outlet.

Bill, a retired insurance executive, has been involved with the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail since 2005. He currently serves as Vice President on the Tahoe-Pyramid Board of Directors and oversees both construction and maintenance aspects of the trail.

In 2019, Bill spent hundreds of hours managing the construction of the final “Hogback” section of trail in the Truckee River Canyon (just to the West of Floriston), including the engineered wooden boardwalk section, which included many varied tasks, such as personally fabricating and installing supplemental metal supports for the wooden railing along this section.

We appreciate his dedication, skills and insights that have served the trail so well.

(Side-note: This is Bill’s second Volunteer Year of the year award, so you can get a sense of his dedication to the trail)
