TPT Trail Tracks 2023

As the new President of the TPT board, I want you to get to know me and my mission.

All my life, I have been drawn to rivers. The Truckee River and this remarkable trail bring together a community of people who are passionate about the vitality of the river and the relationship it has with all of us who live near it. The trail enriches our lives. Walking or riding on the trail improves our health and fitness and gives us a better perspective of how precious our lives are along the mountains, desert and the Truckee River.

2023 is a year of profound change within the volunteer organization that supports, grows, and maintains the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail. I am inspired to succeed our late founder, Janet Phillips, as I begin my 2-year term of service. My primary goal is to continue Janet's vision of completing the trail by moving east to Pyramid Lake. We also need to maintain and improve our existing trail.

The Truckee River and the trail alongside, connects communities and increases respect for our sparkling resource. I hope that by expanding outreach about the trail, it will help share my love for the Truckee River and honor Janet's legacy.

Is spring actually coming?

As they say, spring is right around the corner, it just doesn't feel like it some mornings. Cosmo, the dog, is staring at me waiting to be walked but we are waiting for the thermometer to break above 20 degrees! But - I do love winter! Nothing makes me happier than looking out the window in the morning and seeing fresh snow. Growing up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I could never identify my favorite season; it was always the next one! I loved them all and living in Reno now, I feel the same! We are so fortunate. But yes, I too, am waiting for the first forsythia bush to bloom. But we have a slate of events coming up to look forward to if your mind is filling with thoughts of spring blooms!

Events for Spring and Beyond

International Trails Summit
This event is put on by the American Trails organization and will be held in Sparks at the Nugget Casino Resort during the week of April 17th. The summit is for outdoor enthusiasts who are involved with construction of, advocating for, and expanding their knowledge of our trails locally and around the world. Registration for the summit is required. For the general public, there will be a Trails Film Festival on Thursday April 20th. Here are a few links for more information on these events:

The Cookie Ride
This annual event will be on Sunday, May 21st. For any cyclists out there, gather your friends and start wherever you would like and meet in Verdi at Crystal Peak Park at 9:30am. We will talk a little about what is happening with TPT and enjoy some homemade cookies. If you are a baker and would like to contribute a few dozen homemade cookies, please drop an email to president@tahoepyramidtrail.org and we will connect you to the cookie coordinator, AKA Cookie Monster, AnnaBell. Thank you Procrastinating Pedalers for your support for this event!

We want to recognize our donors that were inadvertently missing from our recent donor lists!

Thank you to Candy and Dal Hunter for their 4th Quarter 2022 Century Circle Donation!

We also want to thank Cynthia and Jim Richardson for being on our 2022 Millennial Circle Donor list!

Even though we work hard to avoid these kinds of mistakes, sometimes things don’t go according to plan. We appreciate all of our donors that help make the TPT amazing!
