January 2023 - Looking Back on the Year

In Remembrance:  Janet Phillips

The Tahoe Pyramid Trail community and lovers of the outdoors lost our founder, CEO and leader on December 28th. Janet's vision to create a trail not just for bicyclists and hikers, but for all in our community to enjoy. Through her focus, passion and drive, we will continue this adventure through the numerous volunteers, sponsors, advisors and board members of the TPT. We appreciate the outpouring of concern and support from all of those throughout our community. We value all of you willing to continue to support Janet's vision of completing the trail.

20th Year Celebration!

Join us on January 11th at Patagonia to celebrate the 20th year of the TPT, and to honor our visionary Janet Phillips. From the beginnings of this amazing trail to the continuation through the eastern sections and the progress along the way, we look forward to celebrating our achievements and future developments.

Trail Events and Improvements

  • We started the year with permitting for the eastbound trail!
  • TPT received a very kind and generous endowment from a local outdoor enthusiast early in the year
  • We successfully brought back the Cookie Ride in May
  • In July, the town of Truckee passed a measure to fund local trails for years
  • We added numerous trail adopters to provide much-needed upkeep along several sections of the trail in the fall
  • Our major donor appreciation reception provided recognition to our many local contributors in September
  • A successful Ride the Rez event was completed in October, with many thanks to the Procrastinating Pedaler's and the Paiute Reservation.
  • Contruction along the Floriston section was completed in November, with thanks to contractor Richard May and numerous volunteers.
  • We attended an uplifting workshop with a bicycle enthusiast group from The Netherlands to assist us in future planning

Trail Conditions

Although these recent storms have brought a lot of rain, snow and some rough conditions along the trail, there are always opportunities to get out on the trail for a great hike, or bring along some snowshoes for a unique adventure. Or take on the Legacy Trail section which is paved, and can be quite beautiful with the recent snowfall!
