Are you prepared for winter on the trail?
We ran into an angler on the trail today while hiking -- David from Reno. He was fully prepared to be out on the trail with radio, comforter, additional clothing and we assume a few meals if necessary. He told us an amazing story of how he survived alone for 4 days after his 4WD truck rolled into a ravine and trapped him in the backcountry an hour north of Winnemucca. We applaud his preparedness and ingenuity in extricating himself from the truck with two broken feet and catching the attention of someone on an ATV driving by. We recommend if you are hiking or biking alone, to make sure someone knows where are heading, your route and when to expect you back. Then if something unexpected does happen, they know where to look for you. Go out and enjoy this beautiful trail but be prepared!
