RIDE THE REZ
On October 23, TPT, in partnership with Procrastinating Pedalers*, will host the 15th almost-annual "Ride the Rez". 23 miles of the TPT is on Reservation land and was made possible in 2006 by collaboration with the Tribe. This is an intermediate mountain bike or gravel bike ride of 22 miles from Wadsworth to Nixon. If you feel unsure of finding your way, or intimidated by the remoteness of this part of the TPT, this is an opportunity to ride in a group with shuttle support.
Due to the shuttle being provided, ADVANCE SIGNUPS ARE REQUIRED, and you must be a member of the Procrastinating Pedalers at https://www.pedalers.org/store/membership. Details on time and meeting location will be posted on their website.

*A note about the Pedalers' partnership on this ride--it's all about insurance! TPT doesn't have ride insurance, so we are grateful for the Pedalers' stepping up to host this ride. If you belong to another club (biking, hiking or running), we would love to hear from you about partnering with events on the TPT.

DUTCH CYCLING EXPERTS VISIT TRUCKEE MEADOWS
|
|
In mid-September, TPT participated in a 3-day seminar with the Dutch Cycling Embassy along with city officials, RTC, NDOT and local cyclists. The main goal is to get people out of their cars and use alternative methods of transit. The team from the Netherlands had a chance to evaluate Reno and then worked with the participants to modify a few parts of Reno as a hands-on workshop. A study will come out of these workshops.
The Dutch have embraced cycling along with other transit alternatives and shared with us how it came about for them. If you have ever visited Amsterdam, you know the bikes just about outnumber the cars so they have been very successful but not without their trials. So yes, there is hope that we can make some changes.
If you ride down Virginia, you will see the city has taken some stride. Just remember, a left turn may require 2 stops. Think like a pedestrian.

In October, there will be erosion repairs made to the trail 1 mile west of Floriston, at the switchbacks.
|
|
THIS WILL REQUIRE THE TRAIL TO BE CLOSED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS. For up-to-date information on exact dates, please check our website or Facebook page. Regrettably, there is no detour available at this location, except I-80 for about a mile, eastbound only.
