Thank you, organizers, bakers, and riders for a successful 2022 Cookie Ride!

Trail Progress East of Sparks
 Depends on NDOT Permit

The Tahoe Pyramid Trail's progress east of Sparks is waiting for permits from NDOT. TPT volunteers submitted a permit request for the plan to connect the Trail from Sparks to the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. The permit request to NDOT for an easement alongside Interstate 80 (outside of the guard rail) to Mustang has been pending for several months.

The Union Pacific Railroad denied permission for an easement along the river. Assistance from NDOT is crucial for the Tahoe Pyramid Trail plan to reach Pyramid Lake.

Kildeer Moved On, Construction of
Storage Unit Resumes

You may recall that the TPT is placing a Conex storage container for our tools on Washoe County property at 2601 Plumas Street. A gravel pad for the container was planned to be installed and leveled on April 21 but was delayed due to rain. When the team went out a second time, Bill von Phul, our man behind many such projects, found a killdeer nesting with four eggs, so again, a delay. The TPT was happy to hold off pouring the pad. Momma bird and eggs are now gone. Did they fly the coop, or did magpies raid the nest? On May 17, the pad was leveled thanks to Craig Wesner for bringing his excavator.

Power Equipment Stolen from
Biggest Little Trail Stewardship

Thieves broke into the Biggest Little Trail Stewardship storage container in Sierra Vista Park and stole gas-powered equipment worth more than $4,000. The break-in occurred sometime between May 5 and May 8.
Stolen equipment included:
  • New Multiquip Gas Powered Powered Plate Compactor
  • Stihl Gas Powered Brush Saw
  • Stihl Gas Powered Roto Tiller with wheels
  • Orange Promark Helmet System with face guard and hearing protection.
This loss will severely hamper BLTS's ability to maintain our local trails. If you have any information or saw anything happen at the maintenance yard, please contact BLTS on Facebook.

 Worth a Read

A bit of information with this post. Autumn Harry's father, Norm Harry, now deceased, gave permission for the TPT to cross the Rez in 2006 when he was Tribal Chairman.

The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure (RTO) is a relay from Reno to Lake Tahoe and back to Reno, making a sizeable 178-mile loop around the Reno-Tahoe region. The relay starts at Wingfield Park along the Truckee River in downtown Reno. It passes through Truckee, Tahoe City, South Lake Tahoe, Genoa, Carson City, and Virginia City before returning to Reno and finishing at Idlewild Park.

The course is divided into 36 legs or segments, with each leg averaging about 5 miles. TPT volunteer Jim Kidder and his crew will operate the exchange station in Verdi during the relay race.

Did You Recieve Your Annual Giving Letter?

TPT volunteers mailed 450 annual giving letters this month to past supporters of the Tahoe Pyramid Trail. Thank you for your past support! If you haven't yet, please open your letter and act today. Don't let it languish in the stack on the corner of your desk. Reaffirm your support and enthusiasm for our magnificent trail and make your 2022 gift. Your contribution is vital to the Tahoe PyramidTrail, a 100% volunteer non-profit organization.

Three Reasons Why Your Gift is so Important

  1. Your gift helps fund trail planning and design. While it is possible to win grant funding for actual "Trail Construction," the critical trail planning and trail design tasks are not eligible for Private, Business, or Government Grants. The trail planning and design work must be paid for entirely from the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail funds.

  2. Your gift is used as matching funds for large grants. Grants often require "Matching Funds" from other sources, ranging from 5% to 50% of the grant's total award amount. With your support, the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail can take advantage of grants that require matching funds and not let these opportunities pass us by.

  3.  Your gift keeps the trail open and enjoyable for you and your family. Once the trail is built, a pool of annually available funds is also needed to maintain the trail, improve the trail, and also repair the trail.

Our heartfelt thanks go to each of you for your continued financial support.
