Ride the Rez a huge success

Twenty-plus hardy mountain bikers rode the Pyramid Reservation trail from Nixon to Wadsworth last weekend (luckily before the big storm).  Many thanks to Randy and Amy Collins and the Procrastinating Pedalers for hosting and leading the ride.  There are some places where the sand made gravel bikes not work very well, but the fatter tired bikes pushed through.  The fall color was sensational and everyone had a great time.

TPT is growing up!

After 18 remarkable and successful years as an all-volunteer organization, the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail now has a part-time professional paid manager for special projects. We have two exceptionally difficult projects on the horizon: extending the trail east from Sparks to Mustang and securing trail access from recent challenges at Hirschdale.

Long-time trail-runner and supporter Eric Lerude stepped up at the right moment to help with these challenges on a part-time basis. Eric is very familiar with the Trail and the various stakeholders on the Truckee River, so he has already become indispensable after just a few weeks. Eric’s help comes as a huge relief to Janet and the leadership team at TPT who have worked so hard for so long to get this vision 80% completed!

For Eric’s running world fans, don’t worry….. he continues to own and operate Race178 and intends to put on the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey in 2022 and beyond!

Many thanks to Robison Engineering for helping to make the logistics of Eric’s role simple.

trail report

Our chronically mud-challenged trail section near Floriston was armored with gravel earlier this year, and Bill von Phul went out to see how it fared during the recent rainstorm. Here's what he found:
Did some trail inspections today and am delighted to report that the trail is in excellent condition considering all the rain we had...I didn't even get my boots muddy. The tread is so firm I left no footprints. Maybe the dry soil just sucked up all the rain. Gravel spread last spring on the muddy parts of Section 7 (Old Hwy 40) is doing its job. No muddy boots even in the worst parts. There're spots where squishy mud flanks the gravel, but I could have walked the whole thing in loafers without a problem.Yay! There is some rock fall, but not much. I moved the small ones, but there are two big ones that will have to wait for an excavator. It's very passable though.

where have all the donors gone?

Wow —The year is slipping away, and we are still 75 Century Circle donations short of last year! If you haven’t yet given for 2021, please send a check or use Paypal to make your annual contribution of $100.  If you aren’t sure if you gave earlier this year, just call Janet at 775-233-9799 or email Janet at tahoepyramidbike@aol.com to check our records.
