We did it! Another Fabulous Event!
For the 4th year in a row, thanks to all of you, we had another fantastic Bikeathon. (See more photos at the end of the blog post too!)
Overall, we achieved our long-standing primary goal… that is, raising the local awareness of the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail. And frankly, we totally knocked that goal out of the park!
This year the media coverage was amazing which included the following TV coverage:
- KOLO Channel 8 Friday 2/21 am (TPT Celebration & Bikeathon with Janet): https://www.kolotv.com/video?vid=568071292
- KTVN Channel 2 Thursday 2/27 am live feed from Great Basin Bicycles with Rich Staley: Content no longer available
- KOLO Channel 8 2/27 Thursday evening 11 pm with Janet: https://www.kolotv.com/video?vid=568274022
- KRNV Channel 4 2/27 Thursday 4pm, with Janet: https://mynews4.com/features/news-4-interviews/local-event-to-help-raise-money-for-tahoe-pyramid-trail

- KRNV Channel 4 3/2 update on event results
This Years Event Details:
- In the past, the majority of riders were Great Basin Bicycles, but this year most riders were new to Great Basin Bicycles and the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail. We are sure this was because of the plentiful and enthusiastic media coverage (Thank you all so much #KTVN, #KOLO, #KRNV)
- We raised nearly $1500 for the trail, despite the unseasonably warm weather.
- We had 44 total rides at 50 minutes each – an impressive total of almost 37 hours of riding for our great cause. Great Basin Bicycles owner Rich Staley rode approximately 115 miles, and his fiancé Rebecca Eckland chimed in with 100 miles to inspire the other riders.
- Wearing their beautiful Tahoe-Pyramid Trail jerseys, our own TPT riders Spencer Bird, Clif Usher, Ann Conlin, Mike Traynor, and Janet Phillips jumped in on the fun.
- There was a whole team of riders from another local bike shop, High Sierra Cycling, supporting the cause (Thank you #HighSierraCycling!).
- We also had several visitors stop in to buy a jersey, cheer on the riders, have a refreshment, donate, and/or learn more about the trail from Janet, Maddy Shipman, Sam Limerick, Mike Traynor Jocelyn Zarubi. Channel 4 showed up, took some video of the event and did a great interview with Mike that aired Saturday evening after the event.
Special Thanks to The 2020 Bikeathon Superstars… One and All…
- First and foremost, Rich Staley, owner of Great Basin for providing the idea and venue. Rich was also the cycling star of the day, riding each and every one of the 50-minute ride sessions, which totaled a bit over 115 miles. Way to go Rich! Plus Rich was a huge contributor who donated ½ of the total ride fees! We are eternally grateful for your support of the Trail.
- Jocelyn Zarubi, a Tahoe-Pyramid Trail (TPT) Volunteer who coordinated and managed the event and helped to keep the myriad communication and other volunteers moving this event forward. Thanks, Jocelyn… You Rock!
- The entire TPT Communications Committee, along with Janet Phillips, did a fantastic job of promoting the event this year. Huge kudos go to all of them for TV coverage (Dana Sullivan Kilroy and Janet Phillips), social media coverage (Blair O’Neil, Candy Hunter, Alex Hoeft, and Mike Traynor), event photography (Van Tucker), newspapers/newsletters (Megg Mueller, Susan Voyle and Alex Hoeft), other outreach with biking organizations, posting flyers, etc (Cheryl Surface, Mike Traynor and others!), and providing refreshments at the event (Sam Limerick, Ann Conlin, Mike Traynor). Special thanks to Mike Traynor for handling jersey sales, the exhibit table set-up and breakdown, and generally keeping communications going and jumping in wherever he was needed to ensure a smooth event.
- Many thanks go out to Waffle Envy for donating fabulous liege waffles, and to Nature’s Bakery for donating fig bars, and all the other volunteers for donating drinks and other tasty treats for riders and guests.
Way to go, everyone, on another successful Bikeathon!
