January 2024
News From the Trail

Trail Tracks

January is the month for making resolutions. I have never been good at maintaining mine. so to be honest, I had decided there were not going to be any this year. Then I started to look outside and thought maybe there was something that I could pursue, using my passion, like spending more time in the great outdoors and adventuring on more of our local trails. And as many of you may know, I tend to gravitate to adventures along the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail because of the River and the people I meet along the way.

I love talking with people I meet on the Trail and just finding out what brought them out that day.  If you follow us on Facebook, you will see my postings of these people. I’ve met so many of these “independent trail adopters” who simply take a day and clean a section of the trail, as well as so many mountain bikers and cyclists to travel the route and even some bikepackers!  How about that for an adventure?  I also love seeing families with children taking a walk along the river.

As for my own New Year's Resolution, it’s simply to have more adventures and explore new parts of this beautiful area we live in!

I hope that you have a wonderful 2024 and enjoy lots of your own adventures while exploring the world around you! .

Mary Beth Roselli, President of the TPT Board

In Honor of Mike Traynor, a Long-Time Friend of the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail

There is a new bench to enjoy along the Truckee River and it’s located on the Floriston Boardwalk and is to honor the memory of a long-serving TPT Board member, Mike Traynor, who passed in April 2022.

The bench was donated and funded by Mike’s wife Karen, and his family to honor his love of the Trail. Mike’s family (son-in-law, Tom White, Tom’s son, Hayden, and nephew, Dominic) all helped to install the bench in November 2023 with the assistance and guidance of our trail manager, Bill Von Phul.

And when you find yourself on that section of the tral, please take a moment to relax for a moment with a sit on the bench to enjoy the view, and then give a nod appreciate to Mike, his dedication to the trail, and all of the volunteers who were helped make this amazing section of the trail a reality!

Honoring TPT Board Member
Jim Kidder

Recently, while I (Mary Beth), was finishing up with a blood donation and resting in the snack area, JoAnne Gipson, our TPT Trail Administrator, walked in. While we were chatting, the digital board that acknowledges and honors all the people who are long-time blood donors showed our very own Jim Kidder’s name! So when i got back home I dropped him a line to congratulate him on his long-term blood donations and during our conversation, he told me his story:

Jim said he started donating while in college during the Korean War and that he had a friend whose wife had open heart surgery in the 50s which is what started his practice of regular blood donations.

So I want to give a shout-out to Jim, now 88 years old, and JoAnne, both of whom are regular blood donors.

We really do have some great people on our team!

Thanks to our 4th Quarter Century Circle ($100+) Donors!
