News From the Trail

Trail Tracks

February is American Heart Month. What better way to exercise your heart than by taking a walk? We are blessed to have so many trails and parks in our area. Most of us can leave right from our homes and find a nice route to either. Have a dog? You have the best walking companion!  If not, reach out to a neighbor or friend. It’s always nice to have a buddy to keep you on “track” and moving forward! This year, the American Heart Association is celebrating its 100th anniversary!

I have a yellow lab named Cosmo, and we go on several walks every day. He’s my walking buddy! According to the American Heart Association, owning a pet has many benefits, can help reduce loneliness and depression, release happy hormones, and help you live longer. Cosmo doesn’t realize all the benefits he brings to me. If he did, he’d probably demand more walks and treats! He is a lab and the world is his smorgasbord. Maybe it’s time to visit your local humane society and help them out and volunteer… you can be a doggie walker! Or help a neighbor who is unable to take their dog for a walk any longer. Don’t forget the poop bag!!!

Find that walking partner, four or two-legged, and explore the great outdoors and happy heart month!

New TPT Board Members!

Nathan Robison

We would like to introduce you to two of our newest board members. The first is Nathan Robison,  who has been very instrumental in the construction of part of the trail and has helped our finance group. Nathan has engineered and surveyed several sections of the Trail since 2016 and maintains the Floriston boardwalk with his colleagues at Robison Engineering. He enjoys slow trail running and long walks with his wife, Paula, who painted a wonderful series of original acrylics as a fundraiser for the Trail in 2019. Nathan recently took on the task of updating the Trail's accounting processes along with joining the Board to help the old guard realize Janet's extraordinary vision.

Steve Randall

We also welcome Steve Randall who comes from Truckee and also has a history with Janet and the construction of the canyon. He was the General Manager for the Truckee Donner Recreation and Park District from 1985 - 2013 where he was responsible for oversight of all district functions and activities including administration, finance, human resources, parks and recreation operations, and public outreach. Steve came to Truckee in 1985 to serve as the General Manager of the District. Under his tenure, the District grew and now includes fourteen parks, facilities, and community centers. The District has received many awards over the years including the Best Park and Recreation District in the State of California in 2004, 2010, and 2017. The District has also received awards for Best New Facility in the State of California for River View Sports Park, the Community Recreation Center, and the Community Aquatics Center. Steve is active in community service as a member of the Truckee Rotary Club, serving on various boards and commissions,  and chairing many community special events. Under his leadership, the Recreation & Park District was progressive and creative in its development of facilities and recreation and park programs and facilities for everyone in the community. Steve has been awarded Citizen of the Year in Truckee twice, been Rotarian of the Year three times, and grand marshal of the July 4th parade. During his tenure as general manager, Steve worked with Janet Phillips and the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail to secure grants, trail construction, and project management for the California sections of the trail.

Why Did Nathan & Steve Join the TPT Board?

The primary reason is to honor Janet and her vision, but also to continue to ensure that the trail continues to be enjoyed by so many people far into the future. Hopefully, our upcoming spring event will allow everyone to meet these wonderful people.
